For the health of our families, friends and community, we need to continue to be mindful of ALL respiratory infections.

IF you are at high risk, it is still important to test for COVID. Rapid antigen tests (RATs) are available through pharmacies and health units.

IF you are sick, you can access information on care here: https://www.dfcm.utoronto.ca/sites/default/files/assets/files/q2whentocallfinal2_0.pdf

As more public health measures change, it is important to remember that COVID-19 is still present in our region. There is still risk of transmission, and the risk of infection & severe outcomes from COVID-19 is greater for some individuals than others. Our actions can continue to reduce risks for ourselves and others. Ottawa Public Health has a great summary about “Layers” of protection to reduce risk.

Your layers:

  • Being vaccinated with all the doses you’re eligible for
  • Monitoring yourself for symptoms & staying home when sick
  • Keeping sick little ones at home until their symptoms are better x 24h, and their fever is gone
  • Wearing a mask
  • Avoiding crowded indoor spaces
  • Maintaining physical distancing
  • Washing your hands (yes, still)
  • Respecting those who remain at higher risk of complications from COVID-19
  • If you are someone who remains at higher risk, consistently using these layers is essential. And please note that you may also be eligible for testing & treatment options. Learn more here.
